Writer’s Notebook

Writer’s Notebooks

It’s Up To You! Students, this is where you can be creative and write about what you want. It works like this: First, you will all get and create their own Writer’s Notebook (an actual notebook). It should be a reflection of who you are, so make it unique to you and your life! Every week you choose a topic that interests you, but we all focus on a specific skill to practice (e.g., making inferences, identifying theme, supporting an argument). Once the idea is born in your notebook, you will have periodic assignments form you notebook that will get posted on your own blog.

“A writer’s notebook is a blank book where a writer can engage in the fun, often messy job of being a writer – practicing, listening,
playing with language, gathering images and insights and ideas. The purpose of such a notebook is to nourish the writer…
such a notebook… is one of the most essential tools of the trade.”
